Social Security has made major changes to the November payment schedule – List of affected retirees
Every month millions of Social Security Beneficiaries are waiting to receive their monthly benefits from the retirement, survivor, and disability insurance (RSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. Although each month comes with five payments, November will have big changes as some payment days fall on weekends. Therefore, whenever this happens, the Social Security Administration reschedules that payment date for the previous business day so that beneficiaries do not end up at risk. If you’re currently eligible for Social Security benefits, learn more about the upcoming changes here.
Big changes to the Social Security payment program that beneficiaries need to know
As mentioned earlier, the SSA offers five payments for all beneficiaries based on the program they qualify for, the date they claim their first check and their date of birth. To better understand how to Social Security payment schedule is working, please check the following information:
- On the first day of the month for Supplemental Income Program recipients
- On the third day of the month for retirees, survivors, and disabled people who collected benefits before May 1997
- On the second Wednesday for RSDI beneficiaries who collected benefits after May 1997 and were born between 1 and 10
- On the third Wednesday for RSDI beneficiaries who collected benefits after May 1997 and were born between the 11th and 20th.
- On the fourth Wednesday for RSDI beneficiaries who collected benefits after May 1997 and were born between 21 and 31
When the third day of the month fell on a weekend, the Social Security Administration reinstated the payment for the previous business day, which was November 1. For this reason, there can be no payments in the second week of the month. In addition to this change, SSA will also add additional SSI payment for eligible beneficiaries as the first of December falls on a weekend. Therefore, to understand all upcoming payment dates, please refer to the following information:
